Our LA reporter Brixie19 sent us 7 pages of October/Halloween events in LA.  7 pages!  So we're going to bring you two events per post. 

Los Angeles is known for being a busy city – lots to do, not a whole lot of time to do it.  Here, I have listed the best things to do during the month of October.  Hit a few or hit them all – just don’t miss out on some of these awesome events!

Night Terrors: What Goes Bump Makes You Jump

·         Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios

Where:  Universal Studios Hollywood -  1000 Universal City Drive  Universal City, CA  91608

When:  Oct 8, 9, 15-17, 21-24, and 28-31

Time:  7pm on the dates listed

Cost:  Tickets ate $59 at the door every night, but there are discounts for purchasing online, so check out the website!

What to Expect:  Lots of characters roaming the park, ready to jump out at you.  Themed haunted houses (Friday the 13^th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Saw, House of 1000 Corpses, Vampyre.)  There’s one show, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure, if you care to sit through it.  Scary mazes, haunted tram tours, and rides tweaked for ultimate terror.

Bottom Line:  There are clowns, people.  Clowns.  Other than that, this was a bit less scary than I thought it would be.  Sure, there are characters surrounding you every second, but after the first 30 minutes, you sort of roll your eyes at them and laugh.  The Terror Tram was pretty cool, but only because you got to walk by the Bates Motel and mansion.  King Kong 3-D was awesome, but the Jurassic Park in the Dark ride was closed the night I went, which was really disappointing.  All in all, a good time – I’m sure it would be worth the price of the ticket if you actually went into any of the haunted houses.  I was too scared.

·         Knott’s “Scary” Farm

Where:  Knott’s Berry Farm – 8039 Beach Blvd   Buena Park, CA 90620

When:  Now til October 31st

Time:  Wednesday through Sunday, 7pm til 1am (some days 2am)

Cost:  Pre-sale and online tickets are anywhere from $33-$50 – Tickets are $56 at the door

What to Expect:  Tons of mazes and attractions for those looking to be scared, along with over 1000 characters wandering around the park.  Just some of the great attractions are:  Fallout Shelter 3D, Sleepy Hollow, Virus Z, Lockdown: The Asylum, Terror of London, Dia De Los Muertos, Uncle Bobo’s Big Top of the Bizarre 3D, The Labyrinth, The Slaughterhouse, Black Widow’s Cavern, The Doll Factory, Club Blood, and Corn Stalkers.

Bottom Line:  In my opinion, when doing research for this, Knott’s Scary Farm looks WAY cooler than Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights.  There seems to be a whole lot more to see and do, and the attractions seem way scarier.  Of course, Universal Studios will have more mainstream haunted houses, like Friday the 13^th and Saw – but Knott’s seems to really be trying to get to your deepest fears.  (C’mon – The Doll House?!)  Obviously, the choice is yours – but when I’m doling out over 50 bucks to have a good time, I want to get my money’s worth.  Knott’s seems like the better and scarier choice

Indiana is known for its corn, and that is pretty much it, so why not go on some haunted cornfield mazes? There are like thousands of them, a lot of them are kid friendly also if you want to take younger children. Here is a link that has a list of corn mazes along with their websites. Clicky

If you are in Indianapolis, there are haunted houses that have a number of attractions, like Necropolis (Clicky) and also Hanna Haunted Acres (Clicky) which has been voted as the best Halloween attraction in Indianapolis and it's pretty much where everyone goes with 4 haunted houses, a hayride, and a cornfield maze.

According to the Necropolis site, they have parted ways with their mastermind & their security guy, so Necropolis will still be open but won't be the same.  They are hoping to revamp & come back to scare in 2011.

Here is my review of  The Soap Factory Haunted Basement, which is the scariest haunted house that I've ever been to!!

The Soap Factory  first began as a railroad warehouse  along the  Mississippi River and later became a soap factory during World War II. In 1995, The Soap Factory  became  home to an art gallery, studio space, and an  artistic laboratory.

This upcoming halloween season marks the 4th year for the scariest halloween event in Minneapolis. The haunted basement runs October 1st- October 31st (Thurs-Sun).  This years theme is "Distortion", promising new mind-bending phobias.

Last year was my first visit to the Haunted Basement. The 30 minute unguided tour runs in groups of four. While in complete darkness, you are surrounded by a cavernous maze of unexplainable oddities, distorted  appendages, noxious odors, (such as rotting corpse), rooms that spin, flashes of light, which leaves you
with the taste of fear in your mouth.

Before visiting the Haunted Basement, it's important to know the following:

            1. There are a limited number of tickets available each night.
(purchase them online)

            2.  No admittance if you are under 18.

            3. You must sign a waiver once you arrive

            4. Wear comfortable shoes (no high heels or flip flops allowed)

            5. No alcohol is allowed (you will get denied entry if you appear intoxicated).

            6. Too scared? The code word to escape is "Uncle"

Note from Whorticulture: I did a little research on this, and every single review I read said people were absolutely terrified, and it was the scariest haunted house they'd ever been to.

If you live in Buffalo, NY, chances are you think there isn’t much going on.  I lived there for 27 years, and I constantly complained about never having anything to do or anywhere to go.  But when it comes to holidays, Buffalo is full of fun things to do.  St. Patrick’s Day and Dyngus Day are the biggest party days of the year in Buffalo.  They have the second largest Gay Pride Festival in the country.  And the month of October, leading up to Halloween, offers a ton of events.  Here are just a few:

·         Fright World

Where:  3060 Sheridan Dr.  Buffalo, NY 14226

When:  October 1^st til 31^st

Time:  Weekdays, 6:30pm-10pm               Weekends, 6:30-1am

Cost:  $23 gets you into 5 haunted houses; for an extra $7, get a Frightpass which allows you to skip the lines.

What to expect:  5 unique haunted houses, each with their own theme.  (Phobiaz, Return of Mummy’s Curse, Grind House, Raven Hill Asylum, and Wicked Woods.)  Free parking.  No costumes allowed.  No photos.  No outside food or drink.  No alcohol served or allowed.

Bottom Line:  Fright World was voted one of the top 5 best Haunted Attractions in the country, so you can’t miss this.  You’re allowed to step aside or go to the lobby if you’re too freaked out.  Not for small children.  It takes about 2 hours to get through all 5 houses.

·         Fright Fest at Darien Lake Theme Park

Where:  Darien Lake Theme Park Resort – 9993 Alleghany Rd.  Darien Center, NY 14040

When:  Now through October 17^th – Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only

Time:  Varies by the day – please visit the website

Cost:  I recommend purchasing tickets online:  You save almost $15.  Ticket prices are $24.99-29.99 online. 

What to expect:  Haunted graveyards, corn cannons, scary bus tours, haunted houses, “Road Rage Cage,” LaserBlast Spooktacular shows, “Crazy Cliff’s Twisted Nightmare,” pumpkin painting, and trick-or-treating.

Bottom Line:  There are attractions for kids (like “Booville,” a family friend portion of the park), but as a whole, this event is more for teens and young adults.  There is an additional charge to visit the “Manic Mansion.”  The spooky laser show begins after the park closes – it’s full of fireworks, lasers, and entertainment - but if you want to get home at a reasonable hour, you should probably leave before it begins.  Darien Lake is about a 30-45 minute drive from the city of Buffalo (without traffic).

·         Final Fear

Where:  Erie County Fairgrounds,

When:  October 1^st til October 31^st (there are a few weekdays that this is closed – please double check the website)

Time:  Usually 6:30pm – 12pm (again, there are few days that this closes earlier – check the site)

Cost:  $21.00 for 4 haunted houses (Mighty Taco offers coupons for $5 off)

What to expect:  4 haunted houses (Blood Type, Wrong Turnz, Chaos in 3-D, and Slaughter Haus II)

Bottom Line:  On one part of the website, it says tickets are $20 per person for 3 houses, plus $3 extra for Slaughter Haus II.  On the website listed below, it says $21 for all 4 houses.  Approach with caution.  There is a more family friendly version offered, called “Kids Lights On Tour,” offered on October 23, 24, 30, and 31 for $6.00.  The Kids Tour is from 1pm – 5pm on those dates only.

·         3^rd Annual Buffalo Zombie Walk

Where:  Bidwell Park, corner of Elmwood Ave and Bidwell Parkway

When:  October 31st

Time:  1pm – 4pm

Cost:  Free

What to expect:  People walking the streets of downtown Buffalo dressed in their best zombie-wear, moaning and lurching at passersby.

Bottom Line:  This is a fairly new event, and it is mostly done by city residents in their early 20’s.  This is not necessarily a family Zombie Walk, but don’t fear taking your kids out on the street at this time.  There have been problems in the past with the “zombies” climbing on or rocking parked cars.  Also, business owners beware; some “zombies” may smear blood on your storefront.  But there are more strict rules in place for this year’s Zombie Walk, so it should be, at the very least, a fun thing to witness.

Vancouver is known in Canada for being the "no fun city" but during
Halloween, we kick ass.

One of the most popular events here is* *Fright Nights at Playland*.* Every
year, they present different haunted houses to visit. Bring a thermos of hot
chocolate or coffee, I've spent more than an hour in different line ups but
its worth the wait. Bonus, the popular rides are also reopened for the
public.

Returning again is the popular Parade of Lost Souls on October 30. The
entire Commercial Drive Community (a community known for its funky diversity

Hi there UK residents! So we don't miss out on all the fun on our side of the pond, Uncle Eddie asked me to write a little something about any events happening near us. I am going to fill you in on a few events happening near my little corner of the world, so even if we can't be over to join in the awesome Halloween events that we read about, we may still be able to get in the 'spirit'!!

Firstly, Marwell Zoological Park, in Colden Common, Winchester is having a Halloween Festival, from 25-31st October. This is good if you have little monsters and need to entertain them. The event is free with normal entry fee, and you can bring a pumpkin (or buy one there) and take part in Pumpkin carving classes, go in the maze, and freak yourself out at the creepy crawly encounters. This is good if you have kids to entertain, kids just love animals! Personally I want to go just to watch animals try and eat a pumpkin, so if you see some crazy looking chick screaming at a tiger to 'nosh down on it, damn it', you found me! http://www.marwell.org.uk/halloween/default.asp

However, if that sounds boring as shit, don't fear, there are other things to do and be scared by in the South of little old England!

Of course the best part of living near London is the history of murders there, and whats the most famous unsolved serial murder case in the UK kiddies? Yes that's right, Jack the Ripper. Give yourself a pat on the back. Now what better day to do one of the Jack the Ripper tours than Halloween? They are lead by well educated people who can answer al your questions as they lead you around the sites of the murders, and at nighttime it can be quite scary! This is the one I went with:

Now, if even that sounds too tame for you, what about a night in the London Dungeon? Oh, not so tough now then are you? Well listen up, cos this is a one time only thing. Its the Friday 22nd October from 9pm to 3am, so if you like your snoozing time, forget it! This is the shit, seriously. You start with a talk about ghosts, then a walk around the dungeons, then you can take part in the psychic experiments and help monitor the ghost equipment throughout the night. We all know how haunted the Dungeon really is, so this is a once in a lifetime chance to shit yourself in the great tower. Book soon though, because these tickets are gonna go faster than a birthday cake at a fat kids party.

Now you have returned after changing your panties at the prospect of meeting real ghosts, and decided you want something a bit lighter, how about a all nighter dancing in your best Halloween costume? The Lynx Halloween All Nighter takes place at Alexandra Palace on Saturday 30th October. So anyway, I hope theres something that tickles your winkle to do in this review. And remember, if you choose Marwell and see a tired looking chick chasing a hyperactive toddler, looking like shes going to take a shotgun to the first innocent looking animal she can find, do come and say hi!

They're open April through October, with extended hours in September & October.
The wax sculptures move & scream.

Tickets are also pretty cheap, so it sounds like a pretty good deal.

Our good friend @SailorVesta alerted us to the Zombie Walk taking place on October 30th in Asbury Park, NJ.

"Everyone in the town really gets into it. The stores and restaurants on the boardwalk get into it, there were people on top of the buildings last year with signs that said "ALIVE INSIDE" it's a lot of fun. They're also trying to break the Guinness World Record to get the most zombies."

There are a million undead reasons why you should check this event out.  This year they're going for the Guinness World Record for the largest Zombie Walk in history, and you can be a part of it!

They're organizing a HUGE dance-off to Michael Jackson's Thriller and even holding dance classes!  Not only that, check out the October 3rd event:

ZOMBIE V. HUMANS PAINTBALL!!!

 This Zombie Walk is serious business!
