Thank God for MADCAP Theater and Zack Attack's Camp Cinema during this horror drought! 

So Friday and Saturday, Zack is bringing us two B-Movie horror classics that look seriously awesome!

First up we have Frankenstein's Castle of Freaks

From Zack's website:
Dr. Frankenstein who, like many Frankenstein’s of yore, endeavors to build an enormous humanoid monster named “Goliath.” As is the case with so many of his mad-doc brethren, Frank has failed to plan ahead and secure a proper brain for the creature's empty cranium. What follows is a series of confusing plots, gore, and naked foreign ladies – a truly superb late-nite horror flick! 35mm, 89min, 1974.

And second, we have The Dracula Saga

From Zack's website:
Count Dracula fears that his spineless male offspring is ill-suited for vampirism. He turns his attention to his pregnant niece, with the intention of transforming the unborn child into a vampire, but his efforts cause the baby to be stillborn. The outraged niece sets out on a campaign of attrition against all vampires … her entire family. A soap opera of sex and gore…something you can really sink your teeth into! 35mm, 90min, 1973.

I know this isn't really horror-related, but I have to advertise this event.  I went to the last one, and it was so interesting!

Check out The Dark Side of Dr. Seuss with Dennis Nyback

From the MADCAP website:
This could be called “What did you do in the war, Doc?”   For the second half of his long career Ted Geisel (Dr. Seuss) wrote hugely popular childrens books.  Before that he wrote for humor magazines and made money in advertising.   For a brief time in the 1940s he was in the US Army making gung ho propaganda and army training films.  Is there a correlation between attracting young readers and influencing the minds of adults?   With this program you can examine Dr. Seuss’ adult oriented work and make your own decision.  “Lovers of Dr. Seuss will take renewed delight in his whimsical and imaginative illustrations even as they may be disturbed by the attitudes reflected in some of his work.” People Magazine.  This program is presented in 16mm with an Introduction and Commentary by Film Archivist and Historian Dennis Nyback.

The last time I saw Dennis Nyback he was here for his Bad Bugs Bunny program, which was both hilarious and informative.

The Dark Side of Dr. Seuss with Dennis Nyback is at 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm, $10.  If you're in the area, you should definitely check it out.

In an attempt to bring pure awesome to Phoenix (that's what this bitch does on the daily), the Midnite Movie Mamacita and MADCAP theaters are presenting the 2010 Airsex World Championships!

"The World Air Sex Championships is like the US Air Guitar Championships, but with less fake guitar and more fake orgasms. Never been to an Air Sex show before? Here’s what folks need to know: it’s a lot like Air Guitar, but instead of rocking out with an imaginary guitar, contestants are making sweet and/or filthy love with an imaginary sex partner. They choose a clip of music, they show up in whatever sort of wardrobe they like, and they come up on stage and show everyone how they do it. The Tour makes a stop at MADCAP Theaters for one night of simulated sexual fun."

MADCAP Theaters does it again with a new $8 Double Feature

Hey Phoenix horror fans!  Come check out Halloween (1978) and Night of the Living Dead (1968) this weekend at MADCAP!  $8 gets you in for both!

Presented by the always awesome and seriously spooky Midnite Movie Mamacita!

Halloween (1978) In the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois, a teenage baby sitter tries to survive a Halloween night of relentless terror, during which a knife-wielding maniac goes after the town's hormonally charged youths. Director John Carpenter takes this simple situation and orchestrates a superbly mounted symphony of horrors. It's a movie much scarier for its dark spaces and ominous camera movements than for its explicit bloodletting (which is actually minimal).

Night of the Living Dead (1968). There's never been anything quite like George Romero’s original Zombie tour de force. The story is simple: Radiation from a fallen satellite has caused the dead to walk, and hunger for human flesh. Once bitten, you become one of them. And the only way to kill one is by a shot or blow to the head. We follow a group holed up in a small farmhouse who are trying to fend off the inevitable onslaught of the dead.

Both films are presented in 35mm.

Halloween is at 8 pm, Night of the Living Dead at 10.  Come on out and support independent theater!
