The Walking Dead

Did you guys catch it?  What did you think?

It made me want to re-read the comics from the start.  Some things I remembered, some things I didn't, but over all it was seriously aces.  On a scale of 1 - 10, I give it a 500.

Also, major kudos to AMC for not cheapening the effects, or fucking around on the make-up.  Seriously, quite the bang-up job you guys did.  My ass is hooked!

What about you guys?  Was it everything you dreamed it would be?

  1. Though not really a zombie fan I watched it because it looked good, and there's a huge lack of GOOD TV on.

Like what was said above the special effects and makeup was incredible. Having never read the comics I found the story to be very good with the first episode giving a glimpse of a lot of what's to come in terms of other survivors, future conflicts, and just plain dread.

I can't wait til next week.

  2. I thought it was absolutely awesome. I was afraid it would turn into a 28 Days Later rip off when he woke up in the hospital, but it was completely different. Within minutes, I cared about the characters and even got a little teary when Rick got home, only to find that his family was gone.

I've never read the comics, so I wasn't sure what to expect - but I am a HUGE fan of the zombie genre. And that ending was so insane - even though we obviously knew the main character wouldn't die in the first episode, it was still suspenseful and terrifying.

Everything - from the beautiful acting, to the moments of suspense, to the makeup, to the writing - was superb. So I also would give it 500 stars out of 10.

  3. The first episode was great. My husband hates anything zombie but even he enjoyed the show & is looking forward to the rest of the series. I already love the actor playing Rick Grimes.

My only worry is how they'll adapt the comic storyline to tv. I'm surprised AMC got away with as much gore as they did--not sure if they can get the comic story ok'd for tv. Also Darabont said he won't be sticking 100% to the comic, which will be interesting for Walking Dead fans to see play out.

  4. I felt the show was lukewarm at best. It had the sort of overdone feeling of burnt toast used for a sandwich and then left in the fridge overnight. The acting was mediocre and the special effects would fit right in with that stupid ass movie Friday the 13th from 1980.

I'm just kidding, that was for MogulArmy. I thought the show was awesome. I haven't read the comics yet, but I am totally going to buy my sweet girlfriend who loves it the 1048 page book with the first 48 comics in it.

  5. @johnt I still don't understand why you don't like the original Friday the 13th. This is why you're stuck in the middle of Herr Docktor Eddie's human centipede.

  7. I finally got to see this tonight, almost a week behind you lucky bitches, and absolutely loved it! I haven't read the comics, but as hubs is already griped and teetering on the precipice of downloading the next episode online already (30 mins after it has finished) I believe I will soon own them all. By the way, the dude with the kid who survived is from one of my favourite films ever, Snatch, and I always have a special place in my heart for the lovely Andrew Lincoln, so this was always going to be a win for me, but totally exceeded expectations, cant wait for the next one!

  8. I had mixed feelings going into Episode 2. At first I was all, "Who the fuckity hell are all these new characters?" But I eventually settled down and realized that I would probably get just as attached to some of them as I did the "original" characters. And I hate it when people bitch about a filmed version of something straying from the source material. Complaining that "The Walking Dead" series isn't exactly like the comic is like complaining that your burger doesn't look like an actual cow. So - I'm cool with what they're doing. Kirkman digs it, that's good enough for me.

And that scene with the ax was frigging deescosting, meng. Laughed my ass right off.

  9. So there were complaints about the show not being the same as the novels? What the heck?!

Thanks for reading my review response to yours Uncle Eddie! (:

  10. OK, you didn't ask, but here's my take on Episode 3:

    Merle = The Governor.

I honestly think that's where this is leading. TV audiences won't accept the Governor's pure evil lunacy otherwise. There has to be a backstory and clear motivation.

If I have a problem at all with this adaptation, it's that thus far, every c...haracter's actions have had to be justified somehow. We actually SEE Carol's husband, whereas he's long dead and only alluded to in the books. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Shane originally ever outright told Lori that Rick was dead. Give the audience some credit, you know? Let us fill in the spaces the way Kirkman originally laid it out.

That said, I wonder if they'll give Governor Merle his little "pet."
